🕯️ Why We Went Searching for Real Beeswax Candles

🕯️ Why We Went Searching for Real Beeswax Candles

A story of cozy light, clean air, and Kasper-approved choices 🐾

Hi there! Kasper here — your fluffy, four-pawed sustainability scout.
This week, I have something warm and golden to share. Literally.

We just received the most wonderful delivery:
Pure beeswax candles made by Margreth from Lekkerhoning.nl
And let me tell you — we were tail-wagging excited.

But before we show you why these candles are so special, let me explain why we went looking for better ones in the first place…

🚫 The Hidden Cost of Most Candles

Candles make everything feel cozier.
But unfortunately, the majority of candles on shop shelves aren’t so cozy when it comes to their environmental impact — or even your health.

Here’s why:

🕯️ Most candles are made from paraffin wax.

Paraffin is a petroleum byproduct — yes, the same stuff we use for fuel. When burned, it releases:

  • Toluene and benzene (both linked to health concerns)

  • Soot and air pollutants that stick to walls, lungs, and furry noses (yikes!)

  • A carbon-heavy footprint

🕯️ Scented candles often contain synthetic fragrances.

That "lavender breeze"? Often a cocktail of unregulated chemicals that can:

  • Irritate sensitive noses (mine included)

  • Cause headaches and indoor air pollution

  • Contribute to allergies and asthma

🕯️ Cheap candles = cheap wicks.

Some still contain metal cores or lead traces (even though they’re banned in many places). These release harmful particles when burned.

So while your room may smell nice, the air quality could be far from clean. And we haven’t even talked about the packaging…

🐝 Our Glow-Up: Pure Beeswax Candles from Lekkerhoning.nl

That’s why we were on a mission to find real, clean, and sustainable candles — and we’re thrilled we found them through Lekkerhoning.nl.

These candles are handcrafted by Margreth, and let me tell you… they are beautiful.
🕯️ No added fragrance.
🕯️ No synthetic wax.
🕯️ Just pure, golden beeswax — from happy Dutch bees.

🌍 Why Beeswax Is the Better Choice

Beeswax is a natural byproduct of beekeeping. When it’s used in candles, here’s what you get:

Cleans the Air

Beeswax releases negative ions when burned, which can neutralize pollutants, dust, and allergens in the air.

100% Natural and Renewable

It comes from bees (not oil rigs), and it’s biodegradable.

Long-Lasting Burn

Beeswax candles burn slower and drip less than paraffin ones — meaning you get more hours of cozy glow per candle.

Subtle, Natural Scent

No need for perfume — they carry a soft, sweet scent of honey and wildflowers straight from the hive.

Minimalist, Plastic-Free Packaging

Especially when made by local producers like Margreth 💛

🐾 Kasper’s Final Bark

If you want warmth in your home that doesn’t warm the planet too, beeswax candles are the way to go.

We’re proud to support small, ethical makers like Margreth and share their light with you.
So next time you’re looking to cozy up your space, skip the synthetics — and let the bees do the work. 🐝

We bought our beautiful candles here 👉 lekkerhoning.nl (non-affiliate), but you can also visit our Home & Living collection where you can find few affiliate links and order candles via our website and support our project :)).

And stay tuned — we’ll be reviewing more planet-friendly lighting and home items soon.
Until then, keep it clean, cozy, and conscious. 💚
— Kasper
